Human impact on gully erosion. 5th International Symposium on Gully Erosion
Lublin (Poland), April 19th-24th, 2010, Book of abstracts, Edited by Wojciech Zgłobicki
The term ‘gully erosion’ encompasses several geomorphological processes shaping the slopes and floors of valleys all over the world. It is the only type of hillslope water erosion capable of creating permanent landform features. Gully erosion is also a dynamic link between slope and fluvial systems. Studies reveal a substantial impact of human activity on the character and intensity of gully erosion today and in the past. The development of gullies poses a threat to agriculture as well as settlement and transport infrastructure. It causes the reduction of arable land and a fall in yields, and leads to the silting of roads and properties. The book contains abstracts of papers presented during the 5th International Symposium on Gully Erosion that took place in April 2010 in Lublin, Poland.

Human impact on upland ladscapes of the Lublin region. J. Warowna, A. Schmitt (eds), Kartpol, Lublin 2010; 234 pp.
Nałęczów Plateau and Roztocze Region are unique areas in terms of natural, landscape and cultural assets. They stand out among other sub-regions of the Lublin Region thanks to varied landforms, interesting agricultural landscapes and extensive and valuable forest areas, especially the Roztocze National Park. This monograph presents the natural and socioeconomic determinants of the development of the environment of the Nałęczów Plateau, Szczebrzeszyn Roztocze and Tomaszów Roztocze, whereas case studies portray the interrelations between man, the evolution of the environment and dynamics of geomorphological processes. Particular attention was devoted to the investigation of gully erosion in the past and in modern times.
